As a real estate agent with over 20 years of experience, I've seen countless trends come and go in the industry. But one thing that continues to surprise me is the persistence of certain myths surrounding smaller homes and what constitutes the "American Dream." In a recent video, I aimed to address some of these misconceptions head-on by drawing on my first-hand knowledge working with homeowners across various property types.
With technology bringing unprecedented connectivity, many people crave a private sanctuary now more than ever. In the video, I discussed society's "loss of privacy" and why a single-family home continues to fulfill this need for many, regardless of its size. A small space of one's own can be just as meaningful as a large mansion.
All too often, property value is equated solely with square footage. But as I explained, real estate appreciation is influenced by many non-physical factors like location, curb appeal, and care of the home. Smaller homes can be just as, if not more, valuable than larger ones.
From tiny homes to traditional houses, the beauty of real estate lies in its ability to accommodate diverse lifestyles. Rather than criticize certain housing types, communities should promote flexibility and choice. This allows each individual to define their own version of the American Dream.
